Reflections of Displacement

Imagine if the public housing establishment you currently live in is set to be demolished?

with nowhere to move to?

This collection represents the creative exploration of fashion and design through the historical dilemma of displaced minorities across the city of Chicago from the early 2000s, who were displaced after housing managers and CHA’s “various attempts at improving living conditions. Giving a look at what situation the displaced people are in reaching an end point of giving them a partial solution. Exploring the conundrum of having the idea of something vs the actual thing? What’s more important? A failed replacement of mixed income housing with a rigorous application process led the majority of those who didn’t qualify ended up either deceased or homeless. The dark theme in this collection represents the unknown.

Where do you go next if you have no home?

Where will you sleep without a bed?

What happens to the clothing and furniture that you own?
